Infinix is gearing up for an aggressive push in the Indian smartphone market by intensifying its focus on 5G technology, the new battleground for smartphone makers.
“For us, India is definitely a very critical market. And we want to play the 5G game pretty aggressively. We plan to launch a new mobile product every month. This is the first of the launches that we are doing on the 5G series,” Anish Kapoor, CEO, of Infinix India told ETTelecom.
“India stands out as one of the most pivotal markets, driving significant investments for us. It represents a new narrative today and being one of the largest smartphone markets globally, the market is crucial in our overall strategy,” he said.
5G played a pivotal role in consumers’ smartphone purchasing decisions last year, and Infinix wants to double down its efforts on the next-generation network.
Infinix’s aggressive push in 5G can be seen with its newly launched NOTE 40 series. The line-up includes four smartphones: the NOTE 40, NOTE 40 Pro 4G, NOTE 40 Pro 5G, and NOTE 40 Pro+ 5G. Citing the importance of 5G, the company had to introduce another base variant with 5G called NOTE 40 5G.
Last year, despite a stagnant market, the Transsion company achieved a remarkable 30% year-over-year growth in shipment volumes. This translated to a 3.1% increase in market share in 2023, up from the 2.4% recorded in 2022.
“We will continue to put all our energies till the Rs. 30,000 price point. With every launch, we create a value proposition, we try to solve one of the challenges that are there in the market,” Kapoor said.
Infinix says it is now paying attention to offline smartphone shipments, saying online isn’t a strategy anymore. It now uses a hybrid model to further penetrate the Indian market.
“We started working in the offline market last year,” Kapoor said. “Already [we] are touching close to 20,000 outlets, expanded in northern India, East and West part of it. South, we are still on the way. But three-fourths of the country we have already covered. And the response has been phenomenal.”
The Chief of Infinix India emphasized that Infinix’s offerings extend beyond smartphones to include laptops, TVs, and TWS, highlighting the brand’s focus on building a comprehensive mobile ecosystem.
Furthermore, he revealed plans for the introduction of two to three additional products, alongside laptops, with smartwatches also in development.
