Why Hasn’t Infinix Released Android 14 Beta Like Other Brands?

The smartphone industry is evolving at an unprecedented level, with software updates being a vital aspect of user experience. This month at its annual developer conference, Google I/O, the Internet giant, released the second public Beta version of Android 14, and of course, there were several other Android phone manufacturers onboard with Google who made the beta version of Android 14 updates for their smartphones. These smartphone manufacturers dish out these Android beta versions so that their users can participate in testing and provide valuable feedback.

If you take a look at the above list, you will see that Infinix is noticeably missing. However, other Android OEMs such as Nokia, Samsung, ASUS, SHARP, and ZTE are conspicuously missing from the list too. But then, reports say Samsung and Nokia are already working on an Android 14 beta release within a few months.

So, what’s the reason behind Infinix’s decision not to release an Android 14 beta version? First, let’s look at the significance of beta testing.

This way, Google and other Android phone manufacturers get to involve Android phone users in the development process by identifying and rectifying potential glitches and bugs before the final release date.

This process helps ensure that Android 14 is well-refined and offers a seamless experience before it goes out to the general public.

Infinix is a brand known for its affordable and feature-rich smartphones. Over the years, the company has consistently provided Android software updates and security patches, thus building a loyal user base across Africa, Asia and Europe. But then, the company hasn’t followed the line of other Android smartphone manufacturers.

Possible Reasons Why Android 14 Beta Isn’t Available for Infinix Smartphones

Stability is Priority: Infinix prioritises stability and user experience, so it focuses its energy on thorough internal testing before the rollout of any version of Android 14 beta. As seen this year, most Android OEMs offer the Android beta update on the first release day, offering a trimmed version of the software that lacks much functionality. For example, Nothing’s Android 14 Beta release renders the fingerprint reader and Face unlock unusable, has no support for the Glyp interface and several other features on the phone don’t work. In fact, the operating system lacks support for Nothing’s stock apps! In other words, the update renders the phone almost unusable.

Resource Allocation: A large number of resources are required, including a dedicated team of developers, testers, and support staff, when developing and maintaining beta versions of an operating system. However, Infinix may have decided to channel those resources into other aspects of the software development, which will help optimise existing features and the timely release of the OS.

Stable release: Infinix smartphones come with a custom user interface layer, such as XOS or XUI. Instead of trying to develop a beta version with the latest Android OS and XOS, which isn’t guaranteed to be bug-free and seamless, Infinix prioritises a stable and well-polished Android 14 release.

So, Infinix might not be among other Android OEMs offering the Android 14 Beta update, so rest assured that its update will be feature-packed, and you won’t feel like you’ve missed anything. That is all we know for now.
